Service Description
Experience the art of pottery with our Mini Wheel Throwing Pottery Class at The Pottery Studio! Whether you’re a beginner or refreshing your skills, our class will teach you to center, open, and pull up the walls of clay, add texture, carve, and glaze and decorate your pieces. This four week class meets 2 hours per week for a 4-week mini session. Class Includes - 10 lbs. of clay, glazing and firing for up to 4/5 finished pieces up to 6in in length* and a shelf for storage of pottery! Students will learn to make small to medium size vessels from 1-3 lbs. each. Focus will be on quality vs quantity and class will include adding handles, using underglazes, texturing and applying brush on studio glazes. Any pots fired beyond the initial 5 will incur a fee that includes cost of clay per lb. and firing fees. Fees are posted in studio. A short orientation will be held on first day of class to explain studio practices and explanation of what this class will cover each week. Attending the first class is mandatory, so if you cannot attend this class please register for a different session. A demonstration will be given each week during the first half hour of class, then students will work on that skill. Skills include centering clay, cylinders, bowls, cups, and plates, then brushing on underglazes and applying studio glazes. There are no make ups for missed classes, and no refunds. Pottery will be ready 14 days after glaze firing. We are small studio so we can only hold your work for 30 days after initial contact for pick up, pottery that has been left behind will be donated or discarded.

The Pottery Studio is a small, intimate, friendly studio where people make friends easily and build a community. If you would like to check out the studio before registering, send me an email to make an appointment! STUDIO GUIDELINES: NO OUTSIDE CLAY/GLAZES/or pottery made elsewhere. Please follow all cleanliness guidelines that are posted in studio. Silica dust is deadly, and there are good reasons for all the cleaning rules posted. This is one of the cleanest studios you will ever see. There are no dirty tools in buckets, YOU MUST LEAVE YOUR WORKSPACE/TABLES/BOARDS AND WHEELS CLEAN thanks! (cleaning is part of making and we will show you how!) Bring your own towels and apron if you choose and bring items HOME TO WASH BETWEEN CLASSES. Dry clay creates dust. Work wet and clean wet, do not let clay dry on tools, hands, tables, towels, floors etc. Clean up dust, clay lint, clay bits immediately. Arrive on time, class ends on time. There are no make ups for missed classes. If the instructor has to cancel, arrangements will be made to make up the time. Manage your expectations, pottery can be difficult ! I make every effort for you to succeed, but if you are after perfection, this is not the place for you. Things happen, pieces break, glaze fails, on and on.
